RATCHET WINDLASSES

This type of windlass can be used on vessels from around 8 tonnes displacement through to around 75 tonnes, with a number of different sizes and configurations. To see a brief shop operating demonstration, use the following link: https://youtu.be/aDYpbXvMWAw

The smallest, pictured above, is the L30, the 30 refering to the main shaft diameter, which in this case is  30 mm.

Other sizes are L40 and L50. An L60 is also available, but driven using a rocker arrangement as opposed to levers, which can be operated by up to four crew members. The model numbers and brief descriptions are provided in the table below.

Details of the configurations available are given in the table below. Following the model number, add -FB (foot brake) or -HWO (hand wheel operated) to specify brake type.
